COMP CARDS, COMPOSITE CARDS, TIPS FOR COMP CARDS
Read about comp cards (composite cards) and tips for comp cards

How to get your comp cards, also known as composite cards, ready for modeling agencies
A comp card (or composite card) is what the modeling agency will use to market you.  A comp card provides a small collection of pictures and basic stats about a model on card stock or rigid paper. Modeling agencies often put comp cards in their display racks. This makes it easy for a client to go into a modeling agency and quickly scan their talent pool. They are sent to everyone in the modeling industry and you leave them behind like business cards during modeling auditions, or go sees, to help remember you.

Photographers, art directors, and fashion editors look through comp cards for new faces or to show updated looks or expanded capabilities of an established model. Photographers especially maintain a comp card file for future projects and to show prospective clients.

A comp cards is the most valuable marketing tool for promotion and exposure, so again we suggest you hire a professional photographer for your photo shoot. The photographs on your comp card must be shot perfectly. Professional photographers will also have the capability to touch up your photographs so you will look flawless.

There are many excellent photographers out there who will do prints for time, “TFP.”

TIPS FOR COMP CARDS
Even if you just started modeling and this is the first time you are getting your photographs to use for your comp card, following these tips will ensure that your comp card is exactly what the modeling agencies are looking for to help find you modeling jobs that are available.

  1. Your comp card needs an excellent set of photographs that show your experience, versatility, range, and the type of work you are seeking.

  2. Use innovative and colorful comp card layouts.  Be creative.  A high visual impact layout will get noticed more.  The graphics should be eye-catching without distracting from your photographs.

  3. The front of the comp card should have that all-important headshot. This large-size photo allows for your picture to be seen at a distance when placed in racks at modeling agencies or when clients review several comp cards on a wall for consideration on a project.

  4. The back side or inside of a fold-over or 4-page comp card should have a variety of supporting pictures.  Do not try to put too many.  Make sure that photographers and art directors can see all the details without a magnifying glass.  How many depends on what type of work you are trying to attract.

  5. Make sure you comp card has your name and personal stats.

  6. Also include your contact information and who is representing you on the comp card.

  7. Print your own comp card. If an agency prints your comp cards, they will likely put their logo on it.  You may want to sign with as many agencies as possible.  This will increase your chances of getting work.  Print the comp cards yourself and give each agency copies - they have stickers that they can put on them with their contact information.

Once you have your comp cards ready, you can start going to open calls and modeling auditions. Always make sure to bring your comp cards with you anywhere you go. You never know who you're going to meet. We also suggest that you drop some off at all the modeling agencies that you know of.
